Illuminati, Freemasons, and Rosicrucian collusion

The Freemasons, Rosicrucians, and Illuminati Order as organizations, were not cohorts, and in the 18th century, the Freemasons and Rosicrucians were not even sympathizers of the "Illuminati" and the Illuminati Order.

The illuminati Order's goal was to not only recruit from a ready gathering of Intellectuals, but also to adopt their methods of operation and ranking.

It was the opinion of Nesta H. Webster, English author and Wife of Captain Arthur Webster, the Superintendent of the English Police in India. She authored "World revolution" (see the Harvard College Library for the 1921 publication) in which she quoted the Count of Virieu, who, returning from the Congress of Wilhelmsbad as saying:

"I will not confide them to you. I can only tell you that all this is very much more serious than you think. The conspiracy which is being woven is so well thought out that it will be, so to speak, impossible for the Monarchy and the Church to escape from it."(1)

The importance of "Mystification"

In the "Strict Observance" the disappearance of the Leadership into the "unknown", evolved in to a social myth that helped increase the weight of the arcanum and the moral self-control associated with it.

The "Great Unknown" were always present somewhere, but everywhere at the same time, and, like the "vanished" of the Illuminati, who secretly sought to occupy that void, they could at anytime sit in judgment on the Member's conduct and demeanor. In the German Lodges the original compulsory secrecy had, as it were, hypostatized itself. It had yielded towards and trend toward mystification, promoting faith in an omnipotent, secret, and direct rule beyond the state.

In Munich, GrandMaster Weishuapt is initiated into Freemasonry at the Strict Observance Lodge (Zur Behutsamkeit), under the alias Sanchuniathon.

His alias alludes to Sanchuniathon, a Phoenician Writer whose works were preserved by Philo of Byblos (20 BC - 40 AD0 in fragmentary form. Sanchuniathon wrote about the religiouis beginnings of the Phoenicians, and said the the various Gods worshiped by the Jews referred to men at 1st; it was only afterwards, according to Sanchuniathon, that they had become deified.

Supposedly, Sanchuniathon had access to secret Records from a Priest of the God Ieuo.
